About Us

Jasper Ewing and Sons is one of the oldest photographic companies and the oldest Audio/Visual dealer in the United States. 3 generations of the Ewing family have  served the South for over 109 years. The firm was founded by Jasper Gray Ewlng Sr. in 1906 in Abbeville, LA. By 1909 it had moved to Baton Rouge and opened a motion picture studio along with it’s still photography studio.

The Early Days

The still photography studio quickly became one of the deep south’s finest photo studios, shooting everything from fine porterature to outdoor landscapes to studies of life in Louisiana. The movie studio produced commercial films, newsreels and the first educational films shot in the south. At the start of WWII the company moved to New Orleans. In1947, Malcolm Ewing Sr., after serving in the Pacific theater as the head of a combat cinematography unit, moved to Jackson and opened a branch of Jasper Ewing and Sons that included a large camera store.
